Police ID man shot in Homewood, found hours later

PITTSBURGH — Police were called to Homewood Thursday morning after someone found a body, several hours after gunshots were heard in the area.

Channel 11 News has learned that neighbors heard gunfire around 1 a.m. on Bennett Street.

Investigators were called to the 7300 block of the road around 9 a.m. after someone found the man's body beside an apartment building.

"I walk out of my house and there is a dead body outside of my house. It's not cool. Someone's family is suffering. The kids, you got to think about everyone else. It's just sad," Tyree Davis said.

Thursday afternoon, police said the victim was Mark Williams, 48, of the Hill District.

"Every day, you're hearing about somebody getting shot, but Mark Williams, he was somebody.  He was my brother," Williams' sister, Tammy Williams, told Channel 11's Pamela Osbourne.

Williams' sister said he was like a father to her son and didn't have a mean bone in his body.

"There was no need for that.  Anything my brother had, he would have gave it to you, so there was no need to take his life," she said.

Police are investigating and looking for surveillance video.
