AMC welcomes millionth guest, just three weeks after reopening theaters

PITTSBURGH — Three weeks after it began to reopen movie theaters, AMC Entertainment Holdings said it has welcomed its millionth guest in the U.S.

Including Europe and the Middle East, whose theaters reopened in June and July, attendance has jumped to more than 4 million, Kansas-based AMC said in a news release. The company has eight locations in the Pittsburgh region including theaters in the Waterfront, Greensburg, Bethel Park, Mt. Lebanon, Uniontown and others.

About 70% of domestic theaters were open in time for Labor Day weekend, according to the release. The reopening was timed around the Sept. 3 release of “Tenet,” but the movie grossed only $20 million during opening weekend, falling short of online releases such as Walt Disney’s “Mulan,” the Motley Fool reports.
