Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh, The Early Learning Institute to affiliate

PITTSBURGH — The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh will grow next month as it takes under its wing another nonprofit, Pittsburgh-based The Early Learning Institute.

Children’s Institute is a 118-year-old nonprofit that helps children with special needs in Allegheny County and around the region with seven campuses. The Early Learning Institute, which started 60 years ago, provides early intervention services for children with developmental delays in Allegheny and Washington counties. The affiliation, announced Tuesday, will see The Early Learning Institute, also known as TELI, becoming a subsidiary of The Children’s Institute. TELI will remain a separate 501(c)(3), but back office and management will be provided by The Children’s Institute.

Wendy Pardee, president and CEO of The Children’s Institute, said the combination will provide a continuum of cohesive services that will all be under one organization. TELI had been looking to partner with an organization and found the perfect candidate in The Children’s Institute, Pardee said. The two have been working together for decades. Early intervention services are provided to children and their families in Pennsylvania who have developmental delays from birth to age five. TELI serves about 2,000 children in the two-county service area.
