PITTSBURGH — When it comes to Pittsburgh real estate, what’s happened with the former Courtyard by Marriott Shadyside hotel on Liberty Avenue may be one of the great fluke opportunities to come out the Covid-19 pandemic.
After buying what had always been a busy hotel in the Baum-Centre corridor last year, Family House celebrated the opening of its new facility in the former hotel, a $16 million redevelopment project that has allowed the venerable nonprofit to consolidate three smaller guest residences into one larger one.
Family House, which provides a place to stay for patients and their families while visiting Pittsburgh for care at its various hospitals, debuted its repositioned facility this week.
Jennifer March, executive director of the organization, called it the “new and forever Family House.”
