Local health system sees jumps in COVID hospitalizations, deaths

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — The top medical officer of Penn Highlands Healthcare, which owns Mon Valley Hospital in Washington County among other facilities, said the number of Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths across its system has jumped recently amid concerns that the effectiveness of the earlier vaccinations have begun to wane.

There are 109 patients hospitalized for Covid-19 across the Penn Highlands Healthcare system, which not only includes the recently acquired Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital as well as hospitals in Brookville, Clearfield, DuBois and elsewhere. Thirteen are on ventilators and four patients have died in the past day alone at Penn Highlands Healthcare hospitals.
