New Dodge data shows very different story for residential and commercial construction

PITTSBUGH — The lag goes on for construction of anything that isn’t residential as the impact of the pandemic continues even as it shows signs of fading.

That’s the broad outline of the numbers reported by Dodge Data & Analytics for the Pittsburgh region for March, in which construction figures are compared with those for the same month last year.

According to Dodge, nonresidential construction, which includes a broad range of commercial and institutional building, declined 52% in March 2021 compared to the same month the year before, dropping from $443.9 million to $213.5 million.
