Troiani considering Market Street demolition options after last-day appeal from city

PITTSBURGH — Michael Troiani is considering moving forward with the emergency demolition of his family’s Market Street properties downtown despite a new last-day appeal by the administration of Mayor Bill Peduto.

“I’ve authorized the demolition contractor to begin the work with or without a permit,” said Troiani, citing a Sept. 7 ruling by Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Judge Joseph James against a new city action he called “nonsense” in a legal dispute he thought was over.

The appeal in question was filed late in the day on Oct. 6, meeting the 30-day deadline, in a notice filed by Assistant City Solicitor Jack Miller, providing no details or argument on the reason for the appeal to Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court.
