VisitPittsburgh announces permanent layoffs due to damage to tourism business from Covid-19

PITTSBURGH — VisitPittsburgh confirmed that it has opted for permanent layoffs of the 29 employees it furloughed in March as the city’s convention and visitors bureau works to manage its way through the ongoing business damage of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In an email, the organization’s Director of Marketing Communications, Shannon Wolfgang, called the layoffs a “tough decision” to ensure that “VisitPittsburgh can carry out our work in the long term.”

She left no doubt as to the reasoning for the layoffs, noting the ongoing damage the pandemic has done to the region’s tourism and meeting business.
