West Virginia wants second booster. Here’s why Pennsylvania isn’t going to follow

PITTSBURGH — The Pennsylvania Department of Health isn’t planning to follow West Virginia’s lead in requesting permission to give a second Covid-19 booster dose to essential workers and people over 50.

West Virginia, following the lead of Israel and preliminary studies, last week asked the Biden administration for the approval for the shot. It would be the first state to ask for permission for a second booster vaccine, and government officials said that the data is showing it provides more antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
