• Jagoff added to Oxford English Dictionary

    Updated:
PITTSBURGH - You’ve probably heard it. You may have even been called it before. Now Pittsburgh’s favorite insult is in the dictionary!

Jagoff made the September list of new words added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

In case you don’t know what it means:
“Jagoff, noun: (chiefly in Western Pennsylvania) a stupid, irritating, or contemptible person.”

In 2014, there was a petition to get the word added to Webster’s Dictionary. Pittsburgh Dad even chimed in, but the folks at Webster’s didn’t budge.

The September update to OED contains more than 500 new words, phrases and senses including YOLO, click-bait and scrumdiddlyumptious.
