2 abandoned homes cause Beechview residents major headaches

BEECHVIEW, Pa. — Several frustrated Beechview residents contacted Channel 11 News to ask for help in getting action on two abandoned homes causing problems in the neighborhood.

The residents said they've contacted the city of Pittsburgh, but nothing has been done about the abandoned homes.

Channel 11's Renee Kaminski went to the scene Wednesday and noticed overgrown vegetation, various animals and even a used toilet.

"It's very disgusting when you have to smell certain odors coming from the backyard or seeing raccoons, and the diseases they carry are very unsafe," said neighbor Shayne Nguyen.

Kaminski took the concerns to the Allegheny County Health Department.

Health officials said the case is under investigation, and action will be taken.  They didn't say when that will happen.
