2nd deadly shooting reported in Northview Heights in 3 days

PITTSBURGH — A 21-year-old man was shot and killed in Northview Heights Friday in the same neighborhood where another young man was gunned down Wednesday.

Investigators identified the victim as Maurice Freeman.

Pittsburgh police said someone shot Freeman in the chest, feet away from his home on Hazlett Street.

Earlier this week, Eugene David Jr. was gunned down a few streets away from Friday's shooting.

Valerie Lauw is the Northview Heights citizens council president. She said many people living in the area feel like prisoners in their homes.

“I come out this morning and there’s shell casing everywhere,” Lauw said. “We’re all living in our own prisons here in Northview Heights because we don’t’ know when some more gunfire is going to ring out.”

Channel 11’s Brandon Hudson spoke to the executive director of Northview Heights. He said he plans on meeting with Pittsburgh police to see what changes can be made to protect homeowners.

“I have once already asked for a fresh set of eyes to come in and look at all this violence in the Housing Authority communities,” said Lauw.

So far, no arrests have been made in Freeman’s and David’s deaths.
