3 lawsuits settled after outbreak at Pittsburgh VA

PITTSBURGH — Three more families have settled lawsuits in connection with the Legionnaires’ outbreak at the Pittsburgh VA.

According to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE, two of the suits involved veterans who died after they contracted the disease.

In the third case, a veteran got sick after using the hospital’s water fountains.

Details of the settlements have not been released.

The Legionnaires’ outbreak was traced to water that was contaminated with bacteria. At least six people died and more than 20 others were sickened.
