Authorities warn CMU students of woman running gas scam

PITTSBURGH — Authorities are warning Carnegie Mellon University students in Oakland about a woman who police said is soliciting money.

Channel 11’s Vince Sims reported that the woman is about 40 years old and has been seen driving several different cars. She uses the excuse that she’s run out of gas, and is persistent in asking for money.

“Some lady was crying and said she needed money for gas. Then I heard someone saw her there last week with the same story,” student Carineh Ghafafin said.

Sims said the woman has a young child with her and has struck on other campuses in other neighborhoods.

Police are asking anyone who sees the woman to call police.
