Doctor plans to launch coronavirus telemedicine option

BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — Many people have called Channel 11 saying they are too sick to go to a doctor, but want to know if they have coronavirus. A local doctor says he is going to start helping people get set up with coronavirus testing through telemedicine.

Dr. David Thimons with the Personal Care Medical Association said this is an important step now in keeping people healthy. He is the medical director for the Brighton Rehab nursing facility.

“If you have concerns we want to be able to obtain a test through telemedicine. You can stay in at home you don’t have to get in the car and put yourself at risk by going to a doctors office. We will send a test requisition to a lab where you can be swabbed from inside your car,” Dr. Thimons said.

If doctors think you have symptoms, an immediate script is sent for a patient to get a drive thru test. Dr. Thimons has teamed up a with a lab in Monroeville to get results back within 24 hours.

“We just think it’s the right thing to do for the region. So many people have helped us as we have gone through this crisis as we’re treating patients with donations giving back to us, we think it’s the right thing to do for our family in western Pennsylvania,” he said.

The telemedicine program with the Personal Care Medical Association will begin April 26. Call 724-302-0299 for a virtual appointment.
