Boy killed in crash remembered at Aspinwall baseball fields

ASPINWALL, Pa. — A 6-year-old boy killed in a car crash in 2012 was remembered Saturday at the Ben Killian Baseball Fields in Aspinwall.

The ElijahFest5K and Field Day paid tribute to Elijah Straw by raising money for the Elijah Straw Memorial Fund and the Aspinwall Riverfront Park.

Saturday's event began with a 5k run that was followed by a half-mile fun run for kids. A cookout that included activities and games for kids was also held at the ball fields.

"We wanted to do something for the people who helped us, but once again, I mean, they stepped up with volunteering, with gift baskets, with money, with time, with resources," said Tom Straw, Elijah Straw's father.

The Aspinwall Little League dedicated a bench in Elijah's memory.

Every nine weeks, the Elijah Straw Memorial Fund presents an O'Hara Elementary School student with the Elijah Straw Helping Hands Award, which recognizes good citizenship and kindness.
