Break-in at North Versailles business prompts police chase

NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. — A break-in at a North Versailles business prompted a police chase early Monday morning.

Police said one person was arrested and they're searching for a second man who they think helped robbed the store on Route 30.

Investigators said the men smashed through the front doors of Nics Tobacco Outlet to get inside. Helen Alexander, who lives nearby, said she heard the commotion between 4 and 5 a.m.

"I heard the alarm going off. It stopped and then started again. I thought it was my car alarm," Alexander said.

Officers said the men walked behind the cash register and filled a bag with cigarette cartons.

Channel 11's Shelby Zarotney reported that the store was robbed in the same way in September and November.

Police said the men involved in Monday's robbery attempted to outrun police in a car, but later crashed. Investigators said the men then tried running from officers.

One man was arrested and a second man remains on the run, police said.
