• Brothers waive hearing in Cal U. marijuana case

CALIFORNIA,Pa. - Two brothers formerly on the club hockey team at California University of Pennsylvania have waived their rights to a preliminary hearing on charges they possessed nine pounds of marijuana in their off-campus house.

Attorneys for 23-year-old Steven Powell and 18-year-old Jesse Powell, both of Baldwin, say they waived Monday's hearing so the case can move to Washington County Common Pleas Court for a resolution. They say there is no firm offer of a plea agreement in the case.

State police say they tracked a parcel containing seven pounds of marijuana that was delivered to the home in April. When police raided the residence, they allegedly found another two pounds of the drug, plus $13,000 in cash.

The brothers aren't enrolled at the state-owned school and may transfer.
