• Bus driver, 73, accused of having sex with 15-year-old boy

ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A 73-year-old bus driver was arrested after police said he’s accused of having sex with a 15-year-old boy.

Authorities said William Scherz, a bus driver for the Baldwin Whitehall School District, is in the Allegheny County Jail facing statutory sex assault charges, among others.

According to police, Scherz was off duty Tuesday when he drove to Elizabeth Township and had sex with the 10th grade boy.

“A grandfather saw the 73-year-old man in his house in a state of undress with his grandson,” Elizabeth Township Police Chief Robert McNeilly said.

McNeilly said Scherz told police it was consensual and that he met the boy on a website called Megamate. Scherz also told police the boy told him he was 18.

“The grandfather had called the house a couple of times and nobody answered. He felt something was wrong, so he returned to the house and discovered it,” McNeilly said.

Authorities said Scherz was so startled that he picked up his clothes and ran to his car, but he forgot his false teeth. Police later found the teeth on the boy’s couch.

Investigators said Scherz told them he talked to the boy on the phone numerous times, and that he was invited to the boy’s house.

“What’s disturbing even more is that the person who was arrested is supposedly a school bus driver,” McNeilly said.

The Baldwin Whitehall School District has not commented on the situation.
