Butler County doctor gets 6-15 years for Scout-related molestation

BUTLER, Pa. — A Butler County doctor will spend the next six to 15 years in prison for sexually abusing a teenager he met while working as a Boy Scout leader in the 1990s.

Common Pleas Judge Fred Anthony sentenced Dr. David Evanko, 59, for his conviction in May on one count of statutory rape and one count of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

The judge will allow Evanko, now of Lancaster County, to report to prison Monday.

“I’m thankful I get to spend the holidays with my family,” Evanko said to Channel 11’s Amy Marcinkiewicz after the sentencing.

Evanko was arrested in 2009 after two brothers, now in their 30s, alleged they were molested as teens. They said Evanko plied them with alcohol and pornography.

The brothers said the sexual assaults occurred between 1989 and 1995 in Butler County and elsewhere in the United States, according to the criminal complaint.

Prosecutors later dropped the charges pertaining to one boy due to the statute of limitations.

Evanko has repeatedly denied the accusations and has said he'll appeal after he is sentenced.

The Boy Scouts revoked Evanko's membership after his arrest. He had been active in the organization for decades.
