Case against man accused of killing mother, sister, aunt in 2009 begins

LOYALHANNA TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The case against an Indiana County man accused of murdering his mother, sister and aunt in 2009 began Monday with an evidentiary hearing.

Kevin Murphy is accused of killing Doris Murphy, Kris Murphy and Edith Tietge in April 2009. Their bodies were found at the family-owned Ferguson Auto Repair in Loyalhanna Township.

Prosecutors said Murphy killed the women because they didn’t approve of his relationship with a married woman.

Murphy’s defense is trying to get the statements he made thrown out because they said he wasn’t in the “right frame of mind.”

The actual trial is scheduled to begin in August.
