Confrontation involving friends ends with 21-year-old father dead

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A new father has died days before Father’s Day after a confrontation involving one of his friends.

Police told Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz that Andy Adams was beaten at his New Castle home by Kiyon Matthews early Saturday morning.

Family members said Adams knew Matthews was visiting, but asked him to quiet down when he got too loud.

“He came downstairs and said, ‘Quiet down, the kids are asleep.’ Next thing you know, he was grabbed, dragged outside and started beating on him,” said Adams’ fiancée, Autumn Reid.

Reid said 2-month-old Annabelle was “daddy’s little girl.”

“She loved her daddy,” Reid said.

Channel 11 News has confirmed through police that the suspect, Matthews, posted this message on Facebook hours after the deadly fight:

“I’m sorry things went down the way they did but it was never supposed to happen that way. He left his home, followed me to cause me harm and I defended myself by two punches.”

Reid told Marcinkiewicz that she and Adams’ daughter need justice.

“Andy didn’t deserve this. He did not deserve this,” she said.

Marcinkiewicz reports Matthews is supposed to turn himself in. Police will be charging him with aggravated assault.
