Cops: Duo faked carjacking to hide hit-and-run

INDIANA, Pa. (AP) — State police said two western Pennsylvania men concocted a story claiming they were victims of a carjacking to avoid charges relating to a hit-and-run accident.

Troopers from Indiana, Pa. have mailed summonses to 18-year-old Jakeb Schrecongost and 22-year-old Jessie Wood. The men allegedly told police on May 2 that they were accosted by an armed hitchhiker who stole their pickup after forcing them out of the vehicle.

Police said they later found the truck crashed on Route 422 near Route 119.

But police now said that story was a ruse to cover up the fact that the men crashed the truck and left the scene.

The men have been charged with filing false reports to law enforcement and other charges.
