20-year-old killed in New Castle shooting

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Crime scene tape and red and blue lights marked the street that’s the scene of the first homicide of the year in the city of New Castle.

“Our goal every year obviously is no homicides. But unfortunately, we lost a young man last night. So it’s disappointing and frustrating,” said Chief Robert Salem.

A New Castle Police officer in the area heard the shots, then found 20-year-old Miles Roberson with gunshot wounds on the sidewalk near 819 Bonzo Street around 11:20 p.m. Sunday night.

Officers say the person who pulled the trigger put his hands in the air when he saw that officer.

He was detained.

Salem tells Channel 11 Roberson died on Bonzo Street.

He said it started as an argument that spilled over to social media and then turned deadly.

“Violence on either side is never the answer and right now there is a deceased young male who died over a senseless argument.”

Salem says he will only release the shooter’s identity if he’s charged with a crime.

Officers are interviewing several witnesses who saw what led up to the shooting.

New Castle Police are still deciding if they will charge the person who killed Roberson.
