Crash knocks out power to 50 businesses in Richland Township

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A car crash forced dozens of businesses in Richland Township to temporarily close Thursday morning.

Emergency responders said the driver of an SUV slammed into a utility pole on Route 8 around 8 a.m.

The accident happened in front of the North Park Lounge Clubhouse, causing the pole to land on the restaurant’s sign and knock out power.

“We hope we can open for the dinner, we don’t want to lose the day completely,” North Park Lounge Clubhouse employee Janet Bartley said.
The driver was flown to a local hospital. His or her name and condition were not immediately released. It was also not clear what may have caused the crash.

Duquesne Light said 50 businesses lost power and they expect to have the pole repaired by Thursday afternoon.
