Flames shoot from second floor of building before fire crews arrive

PITTSBURGH — Fire crews rushed to building on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill early Monday morning as flames sparked inside the second floor of a building just before 7 a.m.

When Channel 11′s crew arrived to the scene, firefighters were concentrating on the top floor of the building in the 3900 block.

Photos shared by a neighbor show the flames blasting out of one of the second floor windows. It’s not clear yet what caused the fire.

Fire officials said a woman was forced to jump from that second floor apartment and landed on a dump truck below to escape the fire. She was taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital for treatment.

Signs on the front of the building said the apartment on the second floor was available for rent.

For at least two of the firefighters on scene, it was the first call of their career with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire after graduating on Friday.
