Crews working to restore power, cooling centers available for people without air-conditioning

PITTSBURGH — UPDATE 11:00 p.m.

Duquesne Light Company has issued a statement saying that nearly 50,000 customers had power restored as of Sunday evening. More than 3,000 customers are still without power across Allegheny and Beaver counties.

The company said Sunday’s high temperatures created further outages for them to handle. They say this could delay the company’s goal to resolve all outages by noon on Monday.

Thousands are still without power after severe thunderstorms hit western Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon.

In a statement, Duquesne Light Company said that 10,000 customers in Allegheny and Beaver counties are still without service. Crews are currently working to restore electricity for these customers.

The company said it expects all repairs to be finished by noon on Monday.

Temperatures are expected to rise, so several cooling centers are available to those who are unable to stay cool in their homes. CitiParks will have five cooling centers open.

Those cooling centers will be available at:
