Does coronavirus have you feeling down? Here are positive things happening within our community (3/29/20)

PITTSBURGH — We know that the coronavirus pandemic is an overwhelming and stressful time for everybody, so we’re going to put together some positive things that are happening within our community to help those in need.

It’s apparent that during hard times, the Pittsburgh region always comes together to help one another.

97-year-old woman live streams cooking

Want to learn a new recipe? A 97-year-old woman from Latrobe is taking to social media to help you get started, according to our partners at TribLive.com.

Lucy Pollock, with the help of her daughter, showed people how to make Easter rolls and nut rolls through Facebook live. Pollock’s daughter said she often did all of the baking for her 10 children, so large projects in the kitchen were no sweat.

Jimmy Z’s Pizza donates to St. Clair Hospital

Jim Zito, owner of Jimmy Z’ Pizza in Canonsburg donated pizza to the entire staff at St. Clair Hospital. Jim’s daughter, Brenna, said he is doing everything he can to survive the changes this pandemic has caused to the local area. But like so many other small business owners, he is still finding ways to give back to the community.

Card My Yard Morgantown

Julie Frombach with Card My Yard Morgantown, a rental yard greeting service, said she wanted to create two signs of encouragement and support for the hospital staff at WVU. Frombach and her husband are both healthcare workers and wanted to help show her appreciation for what they’re doing during this pandemic.

Frombach said in an email to Channel 11 “It made me feel like even though I can’t do much, I was at least doing something small for the community.”

Uniontown family making masks

A family in Uniontown is using their closed business to mass produce masks for both the public and local facilities.

Kristin Piper said they don’t charge for the masks but ask that people donate so they can buy more fabric to produce more.

The family said they can make 100-200 masks per day.

Piper said their five kids have even been helping out.
