Facebook encourages users to share organ donor status

It is now possible to sign up to be an organ donor through Facebook.

The social networking site has links to official registries on its page. You can also add the fact that you’re an organ donor to your profile page.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said he came up with the idea after last year’s death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who had received a liver transplant.

The Department of Health and Human Services said more than 114,000 people are waiting for a transplant. Facebook has more than 900,000,000 users.
