Family, friends attend vigil for city sanitation worker gunned down in Carrick

PITTSBURGH — More than 70 family members and friends attended a vigil in memory of Omar Hodges Friday.

Hodges was the city sanitation worker who was gunned down in Carrick before his shift Monday.

Loved ones described the 29-year-old father of two as a hard worker.  Hodges also held jobs at AAA and First Student as a part-time bus driver.

"He was the dearest, sweetest person," friends said.

Mayor Bill Peduto announced that city trash collection will be suspended next Tuesday in honor of Hodges.

Police have no suspects or motives.  The investigation is ongoing.
