Family outraged after boy, 6, suspended from school for making shooting motion with hand

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A Maryland family is outraged after they said their 6-year-old son was suspended from school for making a shooting motion with his hand.

School officials described it as a serious incident and said the boy pointed it toward a fellow student and said, ‘Pow.’

The family is appealing the suspension calling it an overreaction.

“It’s on his permanent record that he threatened to shoot a student. Five years from now someone’s going to look at that and say, ‘This is a bad kid.’ He’s been branded and thrown under the bus,” family attorney Robin Ficker said.

The school said the boy was warned and he did the motion again. They said they even sent a letter home to his parents.
