Family pets killed, firefighter hurt in Leechburg house fire

LEECHBURG, Pa.,None — A firefighter was hurt while battling a blaze at a home in Leechburg on Tuesday.

The fire erupted shortly after noon at a home on Market Street, officials said.

Steve Myers said he saw flames coming from the home and called 911.

"We were working on our truck, and we saw a little bit of smoke, and we heard somebody yell," Myers said. "We came outside, and about two minutes later the whole house was up."

Kyle McCain got back to his home just as firefighters were finishing and said he had many unanswered questions.

"I just rushed back here as quick as I could," McCain said. "My four dogs are in there and I have no idea. Nobody has any clue if my dogs are OK."

The McCains, who weren't there at the time of the fire, later said two of their pet dogs were killed in the blaze and two others are missing.

"I don't know anything at this point," McCain said. "I'm really hoping for some good news before the end of the day."

Channel 11's Courtney Brennan reported that a firefighter was hurt when water pressure in the hose knocked him over and forced him to fall through a picket fence.

The firefighter is expected to be OK.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
