PITTSBURGH — A father charged in a deadly accident that killed his daughter was in court on Monday.
Richard Benton faces a driving under the influence charge.
Police said Benton's SUV rolled backwards over his daughter Shamera Harris last month. The vehicle dragged the 12-year-old girl before it hit a tree, according to police.
Benton didn't make any comments on Monday, but his sister spoke on his behalf.
"I would like to say to Mrs. Harris and her family that I'm sorry for their loss and that we are grieving as well," said Bennie Benton.
Benton did not have an attorney on Monday so his hearing was postponed.
