WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. – The mother of a teen accused of attacking another student in a fight caught on camera last month inside Ligonier Valley High School says her son was bullied.

Video of the attack obtained by Channel 11 News shows one student come up behind another student and punch him several times before an adult intervenes.

Jodie, the mother of the alleged attacker, told Channel 11 that she doesn’t condone her son’s behavior. However, she said her son had been bullied for months and he just wasn't going to take it anymore.

"He just said, ‘Mom, I can't stand it any longer,’” Jodie said. "I think it's good he stuck up for himself, and he probably went about it the wrong way."

Jodie said her son served a three-day out-of-school suspension for the attack. She said it was a punishment he deserved, but she added that her son acted out because he's been bullied by that student since the beginning of the school year.

"I know he'll be punished for what he did. I just think the other kid should be punished also for the things that he's done,” she said.

Dr. Christine Oldham, superintendent of Ligonier Valley School District, confirmed that the incident happened late last month and that she had seen the video.

"Once that occurred, we conducted a comprehensive investigation,” she said. "I can assure you any of the students who violated school policy were disciplined appropriately.”
