A woman who lives along Newett Street said it becomes very dangerous anytime it snows. She said a car crashed into her yard just last week along the steep road.

“I literally can’t leave. Even if they would come and salt, we can’t leave until they get the power lines back up,” said Jammy Singer. “This street is a pathway from Brownsville (Road) to (Route) 51. This street is used a ton.”

Channel 11′s Christine D’Antonio had to interview Singer over the phone while she stood on the porch and we stood at the bottom of the street. It was for safety purposes because of the icy conditions and live hanging wires across the road.

With the heavy snow that fell Friday morning, Singer said she called 311 with the request to salt and clear the area, but she said it didn’t happen.

About an hour later, a truck smashed into the utility pole. When Pittsburgh police and firefighters got there, Singer said a firefighter slipped and fell.

At this point, Singer told Channel 11 she thinks even someone dying from this dangerous intersection would not prompt a change from the city.

“I don’t even think that would change anything because we’ve had so many accidents," she said.
