First lady Jill Biden comes to Pittsburgh to rally for Democratic candidates

PITTSBURGH — With just days until the election, all eyes are on Pennsylvania. On Wednesday, first lady Jill Biden started her cross-state tour rallying for Democratic candidates right here in Pittsburgh.

“Right now, we are in the fight for the future of our country,” said Biden as she visited the American Federation of Teachers’ Pittsburgh headquarters for their “Get Out The Vote” bus tour.

During her address, Biden stressed to the crowd of educators, union leaders, students, and candidates that for students to succeed, they need elected officials who value education in office.

“Educators, you all helped elect my husband, Joe, and I’m grateful for that because he knows how to get things done,” she said.

An educator and a union member, Biden rallied for teachers to stand behind the Democratic ticket and vote on Tuesday for candidates whom she said are committed to bettering the school system.

“He did it with just a slim majority in Congress. Imagine what he could do with a few more partners like Chris Deluzio and Summer Lee,” Biden said.

Biden concluded her speech with a simple message: prioritize voting on Tuesday because the future of education depends on it.

“Races up and down the ballot are going to be so close, and the only way we are going to win is by showing up,” Biden said.

Biden’s visit is just days before her husband, President Joe Biden, and former presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump will be in the city rallying for their respective parties in what is now a razor-thin senate race.
