Gov. Tom Wolf announces additional $8.25 million investment in baby formula manufacturer

HARRISBURG, Pa. — As the nation continues to face a baby formula shortage, Gov. Tom Wolf on Thursday announced further investment in a Pennsylvania-based manufacturer.

The governor’s office announced it is investing $8.25 million in ByHeart, a Reading-based facility that launched in March.

ByHeart is one of just five infant formula manufacturers in the United States, and the first to become FDA-registered in more than 15 years.

The announcement comes roughly one week after Wolf announced an initial $1.75 million investment during a press conference outside of the facility. https://pacast.com/m?p=20904

Leaders had said that the contribution would enable the company to hire 50 people, and complete its canning line and dry-blend area.

The additional investment announced Thursday will allow ByHeart to “continue scaling up their business and nourishing more babies,” Wolf said.

It’s expected that the investment will allow the company to feed an additional 500,000 babies within two years, and nearly half that within six months.

The funds are coming from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

Pennsylvania is the first state to directly invest in a “partial solution” to the baby formula shortage, according to the governor’s office.
