Group of teens spending summer cleaning their Homewood neighborhood

PITTSBURGH — A group of Homewood teenagers is spending the summer making their neighborhood a more beautiful place to live.

About a dozen teenagers from the North Side group Youth Place cleaned abandoned lots and sidewalks on Bennett Street this week.

The group’s goal is to help steer teens in the right direction.

Channel 11 spoke with one organizer who said there is a misconception that many young people are looking for trouble.

"They want to do good. That’s why they are here and present. They are trying to show and make a stand for the community that they live in. These dudes are coming from a lot of different backgrounds," said Drey Daniels, Youth Place organizer.

The group will be cleaning and beautifying the neighborhood through July.
