IUP student struck by car continuing recovery at home

SOUTH FAYETTE, Pa. — A South Fayette High School graduate is home with his family after a nearly fatal accident in September 2012.

Brandon Bushmire suffered a traumatic brain injury after he was struck by a car in Indiana Borough, where he attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

After spending months in the hospital receiving treatment and rehabilitation, Bushmire returned home Thursday. Unable to walk, he still has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

“We’re optimistic, but then we’re also realistic that he could be this way for the rest of his life,” said Alan Bushmire, Brandon Bushmire’s father.

On Saturday family and friends gathered in South Fayette to show their support for Brandon Bushmire with a benefit dinner that raised money to help cover medical costs.
