‘Just arrest me': Mom admits to being ‘wasted' with child in car, police say

MT. LEBANON, Pa. — A Mount Lebanon mother is facing charges after police said was driving her car drunk with her 6-year-old daughter inside.

Investigators said the child called her father from inside the vehicle on Monday, and told him she was scared. The father of the girl then called police.

The criminal complaint stated that when police arrived on Shady Drive East, Tenique Mathieu, and her daughter were outside of their home.

Police said the girl told officers that she and her mother were at South Park and left the park to return home. While she was driving, the girl said, her mother was swerving off the road and nearly hit another car.

According to police paperwork, Mathieu had glassy eyes and slurred speech. The responding officer said he asked Mathieu to stand and walk down a stairway.

“Tenique could not keep her balance and had to be assisted down the steps,” the complaint stated. “Tenique stated she was ‘wasted’. Tenique stated she was drinking vodka at South Park. Tenique said she was operating her motor vehicle and during the commute from South Park to her residence, she did not strike any other vehicles.”

Police said Mathieu agreed to two field sobriety tests and during the course of taking those tests stopped and said, “Just arrest me.”

Mathieu was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and driving under the influence.
