• Knoxville woman gets 5 to 10 years in abuse death of son

PITTSBURGH - A western Pennsylvania woman accused of having failed to call for help after her son was subjected to a beating that eventually killed him has been sentenced to five to 10 years in prison.

Thirty-two-year-old Cynthia McKee pleaded guilty in Allegheny County Court to involuntary manslaughter in the February 2012 death of 11-year-old Donovan McKee.

A jury last month convicted 30-year-old Anthony Bush of third-degree murder in the death of the boy, who prosecutors said was beaten over a period of nine hours in the couple's Knoxville home. He will be sentenced April 23.

McKee sought house arrest rather than incarceration, but the judge refused, saying the defendant had to have known about the abuse. McKee said she had been afraid of her ex-boyfriend and "I'm still afraid of him."
