Local anti-abortion advocates march through Bridgeville

BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. — Local anti-abortion advocates marched through Bridgeville on Friday, in solidarity with the “March for Life” event that drew thousands to Washington D.C.

The annual march takes place on or around the anniversary of Roe V. Wade. This year’s march marked the first since the Supreme Court overturned the ruling.

“A lot of people think that because Roe V. Wade has been overturned, that our job is done as pro-lifers, but in reality, it’s just beginning, because now it’s in the hands of the states, so we want to let our communities, our states know that we support life from natural conception to natural death,” said Audrey Guskey, the local march’s director.

Advocates first attended mass at the Holy Child Church in Bridgeville and then marched to the town’s Planned Parenthood location while singing, praying and holding signs that read, “pray to end abortion” and “respect life.”

Channel 11 did not observe counter-protestors amid the demonstration, and the Planned Parenthood location was listed as being closed for the day.

Governor Josh Shapiro has repeatedly advocated in favor of activists on the other side of the issue, who fight and march for a woman’s right to choose whether or not to have an abortion.

Shapiro, who was sworn in this week, recently tweeted a photograph meeting with Planned Parenthood representatives. The new governor wrote “as long as I’m serving the good people of Pennsylvania, abortion will remain safe, legal and accessible.”
