Local churches trying to encourage people to fight gun violence with display in Homewood

PITTSBURGH — Multiple churches came together in Homewood to create a display they hope will help prevent gun violence.

The churches in the community created a unique display made up of different t-shirts that show the names and ages of shooting victims. The date they died was also put on the shirt.

The shirts were placed in the open field next to the Bethesda Presbyterian Church on Bennett Street.

The display was developed by a non-profit group called “Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence.” The display will move throughout the area. It will stay on Bennett Street until May 20, then move to Shiloh Community Missionary Baptist until June 3rd and finish off at the Baptist Temple until June 17th.

The people behind the display say it is designed to encourage community members to help fight against gun violence.

“Sometimes you just think about it, that it’s not really real, but when you see the shirts with people’s names, their ages, their death day, it makes it,” said Marilyn Mulvihill with Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence.

The display was originally shown at churches in East Liberty, Highland Park, Squirrel Hill, Sewickley and Franklin Park throughout the summer of 2022.
