PITTSBURGH — A major PennDOT project on the Parkway West began Friday and congestion and delays have begun
The onramp from Carnegie to the Parkway West was closed early Friday and will remain that way until December
The closure is part of a nearly $73 million project to alleviate congestion on that stretch of roadway
Earlier this week, crews narrowed the lanes in both directions between Carnegie and Rosslyn Farms

PennDOT officials said the onramp closure is necessary for safety reasons. Drivers are urged to use Interstate 79 as an alternate route
The project also includes shoulder improvements, bridge repairs, paving and lane additions.
