Man accused of spitting blood on officer during South Side brawl

PITTSBURGH — A man is facing several charges after police said he spit on an officer during a brawl in the South Side over the weekend.

Stephen Howell is facing a number of charges, including harassment and disorderly conduct.

According to the police paperwork, Howell was involved in a 25-person fight near the 1400 block of East Carson Street Saturday night.

Police said when they tried breaking up the brawl, Howell spit a mouth full of blood into an officer's face.

Howell said he was attacked by random men and would never disrespect an officer.

"I think he probably got my blood on him. I was gushing blood everywhere. I'm not that type of person to disrespect someone like that," Howell said.

Investigators said Howell was intoxicated and resisted arrest.
