Man contacts Health Department after catching bat in bathroom

TURTLE CREEK, Pa. — A Turtle Creek man who said he trapped a bat inside his home contacted Channel 11 News Wednesday night after watching our story about bats and rabies.

Tom Bailey said he wasn’t sure what was flying around his head at first.

“I thought, at first, maybe it was a bird. Then I realized it was a bat, and I heard the rabid bat story earlier,” Bailey said.

Tom Bailey said he caught the bat in his bathroom by using a plastic bag and a small rug.

“I put him in a plastic bag and I called 911 and the Turtle Creek police department came over,” Bailey said.

The Allegheny County Health Department warned anyone who comes in contact with a bat to contact the agency, so Bailey did.

“I knew it was a serious situation,” Bailey said.
