Man killed, woman hurt in Homewood shooting

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are actively investigating after a man was killed and a woman was shot in the middle of a neighborhood.

“I’m not scared. I’m nervous. I’m nervous cause y’all don’t have any manners anymore. Y’all killing ladies and kids,” said Rickelle Washington of Homewood.

A pile of shattered glass is scattered on the sidewalk near a bus stop.

Yellow crime scene tape fills a trash can, just steps away.

Those are the remnants of a violent night along Brushton Avenue and Frankstown Avenue.

Pittsburgh police got a ShotSpotter alert for nearly a dozen gunshots around 1 this morning.

When investigators moved in, they discovered a man and a woman who had just been shot in the Homewood neighborhood.

“When I came up, trying to go to the store, he was laying in the middle of the street and she was getting in the ambulance. They were trying to put her in the ambulance,” said Washington.

The medical examiner confirmed that 34-year-old Glenn Tyrone Davenport III died of his injuries at the scene.

The woman was rushed to a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the chest in stable condition.

“It was sad. That was so sad. Cause everybody knew him. He was a good guy,” said Washington.

Neighbors called the shooting reckless and senseless.

They are reeling and trying to process this latest act of violence, especially after the shooting in downtown Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon that claimed the life of 18-month-old De’Avry Thomas.

“This city is out of control. Right now. It’s out of control, and I just pray for the city. I pray for the girl. I pray for that boy’s family. It’s too much,” said Washington.

Homicide detectives are investigating the case and utilizing surveillance video from the area.

Pittsburgh Public Safety is urging people who heard or saw something to call the police.
