POTTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man is presumed dead after a fire destroyed a home in Potter Township Wednesday.
The fire happened at a home on West Mowry Drive.
The 84-year-old woman who lives in the home was able to escape the flames in her pajamas.
"I jumped in my car. I crested the hill and saw she was already trying to come out of the house. I ran out to grab her and threw her in my car," said Chief Vicki Carlton.
The elderly woman told rescuers that her husband had a habit of going in the basement to smoke because she uses oxygen.
Carlton said the man had a woodworking shop and fuel in the basement.
The home was destroyed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
