McCandless ice cream shop owner accused of sexually assaulting 2 kids

BADEN, Pa. — Authorities have arrested a 61-year-old Marshall Township man accused of sexually assaulting two children over a five-year period.

According to Northern Regional Police Chief T. Robert Amann, David Higginbotham is facing several charges related to the alleged sexual abuse, including statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and more.

Amann said one of the victims was allegedly assaulted from the age of 8 to 12, and the other was allegedly assaulted from the age of 7 to 11.

According to police, one of the alleged victims wrote down everything she said happened between her and Higgenbotham and gave it to her parents.

Investigators said the alleged victims are not related to Higginbotham.

Authorities said they’re concerned there could be other potential victims. They’re encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

Higgenbotham, who police said owns Handels Ice Cream in McCandless, remains jailed.
