• McKeesport officer witnesses man shoot dog; Dog survives


    None - MCKEESPORT, Pa. -- A McKeesport officer said he witnessed a man pull out a gun and shoot a dog in an alleyway on Monday night.

    Investigators said around 10:30 p.m. a patrolling officer saw 21-year-old Elmer Harbert pull the gun on the dog near Craig Street.

    Tracy Fry said she heard the shot that injured her pit bull.

    "I heard this bang and she came running. Then I saw this dude come running and the cop car chasing him," said Fry.

    Police said they chased Harbert for several blocks before be dropped a backpack filled with illegal drugs. Officers eventually caught up with Harbert, who punched an officer while resisting arrest.

     Fry said her dog's gunshot wound is not life-threatening.

     Harbert was charged with multiple counts of drug possession and cruelty to animals.
